A gallery’ of 5,000 watched Henry Cotton, the British open champion, defeat Densmore Shute, of the United States, for the world golf championship on the Walton Heath course. Cotton won the match by six up and five. He was five up at the end of the morning round. A curious incident occurred at the tenth hole in the afternoon, Shute’s tee shot landing in the seam of a woman's skirt. The woman stood still until James Braid the referee, arrived, and picked out the ball, and replaced It in the fairway. Cotton won the eleventh with a birdie 3, and the twelfth with birdie 2, becoming dormie six. He halved at the thirteenth, to win.
PROBABLE VISITORS FROM AUSTRALIA MATCHES IN NEW ZEALAND PROMISED United Press Association —Bv Electric Telegraph r*nnvrigbt SYDNEY, July 14. A strong party of Australian amateur golfers is likely to visit New Zealand in September to compete at the Dominion's championships. For the present the probable touring players wish to remain unknown, but two of them have won Australian and State titles and two others have represented their State in the KirkWindeyer matches. It will not be an official visit, but will be in the nature of a holiday.
