PEIvSONAL Miss E. Avery, Timaru, is staying with her sister, Mrs J. J. Kenny, Winchester. Miss Hollow. Timaru, is spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs R. Maddren. WEEKLY DANCE There was a very large attendance at the weekly dance held under the auspices of the Social Cojnmittee of the Victoria Hall. Miss M. Blissett played extras. Miss Davis and Mr D. Aker won the Monte Carlo. Messrs W. J. Jackson, J. Cripps and W. Waple were masters of ceremonies. Ib—Audrey Priest 1, Gordon Bill 2, John Milliken 3. LIBRARY MEETING Mr L. H. Orbell presided over the monthly meeting of the Winchester Library Committee. Also present were Messrs J. S. Smith, A. G. Kimber, J. Holliday, D. Alexander. T. A. DeRenzy, S. McCaughan, J. J. Kenny (secretary). The secretary reported that £6/0/4 was received from the ball .held on Coronation night. Mr Orbell, who is leaving the district, said this would be the last meeting he would be able to attend. He had been a member for 17 years and for the greater part of that time had been chairman. He thanked the members for their co-operation and assistance and trusted they would give their able support to the new chairman. On the motion of the chairman and Mr Kenny. Mr J. S. Smith was elected chairman. Mr Smith returned thanks. He said they were all sorry Mr Orbell was leaving Winchester, and he could assure him of a welcome whenever he was visiting the district. Mr Kimber said Mr Orbell had always been wil’ing to assist in anything for the welfare of the community. His presence at the Saturday night card games would be missed. He hoped that everything good would come his way Mr Kenny thanked Mr Orbell for his assistance at all times and wished him prosperity. On the motion of Messrs Kenny and Deßenzy, Mr Orbe’ was elected a life member of tl Library. Mr Orbell thanked the members to. their appreciative remarks. He assured them that no one would know how much he would miss his game of cards on Saturday evenings. He wished the Library every success. RIFLE CLUB At the weekly shoot of the Winchester Men's Miniature Rifle Club Mr J. L Stone-Wigg’s trophy was won by M. Boston. W. Priddle was the winner the weekly button. The scores were: W. R. Preen 79, W. Priddle 79, A. H. Cripps 79, N. Priddle 78. O. S. Priest 78, W O’Neil! 78, J. L. Grceuall 77. M. Boston 77, John Cripps 77, W. L. Gudsell 77, C. M. Louden 76, R. S. Stonehouse 76. G. McClelland 76, Ken Pearce 75, A. Botting 75, D. Louden 74, J. R. Campbell 74, J. McCully 73. A. Greaves 73, James Cripps 72 W J. Jackson 70. R. Priddle 67, J. O'Keefe 66. Mr L. H. Orbell tendered his resignation, as he was shortly leaving the district. Mr W. R. Pearce paid a tribute to Mr Orbell for his services He had taken a great interest in both clubs and the members were very sorry he was going rway. On behalf of the members he wished Mr and Mrs Orbell every happiness and prosperity in the future. Mr W. Priddle, captain of the Ladies’ Club, and Mr P. Surridge. secretary, endorsed Mr Pearce’s remarks. Mr Orbell said the members of both clubs had been a very happy family, and he was sorry he was leaving Winchester. He could assure the members that he would always take an interest in the clubs and would give two trophies every year. Supper was provided by the members.
