BANK OFFICERS’ GUILD
ANNUAL CONFERENCE By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, June 24. The eighteenth annual conference of the New Zealand Bank Officers’ Guild was concluded to-day. The annual report showed that membership was 3019, cr 90 per cent, of the staffs of the trading banks. The financial position of the guild was strong, the accumulated funds amounting to £4639. The investment society membership exceeded 1850, while approximately the same number had enrolled in the group assurance scheme. Tn the six years o‘ its existence the value of the life insurance policies brought into the group scheme exceeded £1,300,000. The premiums collected totalled £32,600 annually. To date 204 bank officers had gained the diploma of banking, nd a large number also had gained passes in the securities course. During the year considerable attention had been devoted by the executive to service conditions, which had been considerably affected by recent legislation. The report expressed pleasure at the fact that one of the banks had recently instituted a scheme of pensions for women clerks. A resolution was passed recording the guild's loyalty to the trading banks and reaffirming its desire to continue its co-operation with the banks. The value of the present banking system had been abundantly proved and the conference believed that the continuance of that system unimpaired was r-cessary for the well-being of the Dominion as a whole.
