STILL POPULAR
FIFTH DAY OF THE WINTER SHOW VERY UNFAVOURABLE WEATHER Wintry weather prevailed for the fifth day of the South Canterbury Industrial Exhibition and Winter Show yesterday, but in spite of the unfavourable condition the exhibition again proved an attraction to a large number of people. The conditions naturally militated against as large an attendance as was expected, but by the end of the day 2187 persons had paid for admission, excluding those arriving by railway excursion from Temuka and school parties, making the total attendance figures for the five days 12,704. Yesterday a special excursion from Temuka was arranged, 325 people taking advantage of the opportunity to visit the Show, which continues to cause much favourable comment.
Apart from the many and varied interests which the vast building houses, visitors were entertained in the afternoon by members of the South Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Society of Magicians, a fashion parade and orchestra and the Timaru Municipal Band. This afternoon, Professor Hudson, director of the Canterbury Agricultural College, will deliver an address on the future of agriculture in Canterbury, and in the evening a display of oldtime costumes will be staged by the South Canterbury Federation of Women's Institutes.
