DAIRY FEDERATION

ANNUAL CONFERENCE By Telegraph—Press Association HAMILTON, June 24. The National Dairy Federation conference was continued to-day, when the greater part of the day’s business was occupied with addresses by Dr. E. Marsden and Colonel W. H. Cunningham. It was decided to hold next year’s conference at New Plymouth. Several speakers considered that as the annual conference was recognised as the Parliament of the dairy Industry, it should have a permanent venue for its conference. Mr J. G. Brechin (Pahlatua) said he considered that Palmerston North should be the permanent venue for the conference and criticised the lack of accommodation at Hamilton. The view that all milk supplied to factories should be paid for on its basic value for the purpose for which it was utilised was embodied in a remit submitted from the Kalranga Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, which did not receive the support of the conference. Speaking against the remit, Mr J. G. Brechin said that in his opinion the conference would be well advised to leave this question severely alone. If the remit were passed, he believed that it would lead to the closing down of about five cheese factories in his district through loss of suppliers. The rer if passed also would resuscitate the old “battle of breeds,” and that controversy, in his opinion, had already caused sufficient trouble.
