A message from Lakehurst announced that the remnants of the airship Hindenburg will be sold for junk on behalf of the underwriters, to several American companies, interested in extracting aluminium from the framework. When submitted bids ranged from 4000 to 12000 dollars, contrasting with the original constructional cost of 4,000,000 dollars.
