PRODUCE MARKETS
CHRISTCHURCH By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. June 23. Potatoes remain firm, but there is not a great deal of new business passing. The demand locally is mainly for Dakotas, which are fully firm. The market for whites is down in South Canterbury, and the demand here is to some extent affected by the lower values asked in the south. There have been a few inquiries from the North Island, but business is mainly between merchants, some of whom are finding difficulty in filling their export orders. Besides the Fordsdale, which will load next month, and the Matakana, which will load in August, another boat for South America has been arranged. The sailing date has not yet been announced. Shipments in sight or already gone have accounted, from all New Zealand ports, for about 15,000 tons this season. North Island inquiry for fowl wheat has ceased in the meantime, because of the arrival in Auckland of a further shipment from Australia. The amount is about 500 tons. In any case, supplies here are extremely short. The small seeds trade is lifeless. The following are the prices quoted to farmers, on trucks, at country sidings, unless otherwise indicated:— Wheat —Milling, June, f.0.b., Tuscan 53. Hunters 55. Pearl 5/7.
