SUCCESSFUL SEASON “ROSE MARIE” CONCLUDES TO-NIGHT Rich in singing, music, and scenic beauty, the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film version of the popular operetta “Rose Marie” is delighting large audiences where it will be screened finally tonight, at the Majestic Theatre. Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy, who take the leading roles, are as delightful as they were in "Naughty Marietta,” one of the most popular musical pictures ever screened. In “Rose Marie” they sing not merely the original score which includes the "Indian Love Call,” “Rose Marie,” “Song of the Mounties," and several other items, but also selections from the operas “Romeo and Juliet” and “La Tosca.” “Bom to Dance.” Although it is 15 months since Eleanor Powell appeared in “Broadway Melody of 1936,” patrons of the Majestic have pleasant memories of an outstanding film production, and will look forward to to-morrow’s new release, “Born to Dance.” It is an ideal story for Miss Powell, and both she and the director, Roy Del Ruth, have taken full advantage of it. Playing opposite Miss Powell and supplying romantic interest is James Stewart, who by his portrayal adds to a wellearned reputation. Other roles are taken by Virginia Bruce, Una Merkel, Sid Silvers, Raymond Walburn and many other well-known players. Seven new songs are introduced, all written by Cole Porter, who also wrote “Yc ’re the Top.” The inimitable eccentric tapdancer Buddy Ebsen partners Miss Powell in several scenes. The story tells of two sailors, one in love with Miss Powell, who is trying to get a chance to appear in a big musical comedy in the course of production. How her sweetheart becomes entangled with the leading lady and his efforts spoil all her chances until at last she has the lead offered her form an exciting tale providing opportunity in plenty for Miss Powell to exhibit her talent as a dancer.
