THEFT BY COLLECTOR By Telegraph—Press Association HASTINGS, June 23. On a charge of the theft of £42/10/entrusted to him, the property of the Tomoana branch of the Wellington Freezing Workers’ Union, Hugh Gemmel Beban, single, aged 48, appeared in the Magistrate's Court to-day. He pleaded guilty. Mr J. Miller, S.M., placed him on probation for two years on condition that he took out a prohibition order and made restitution of the money appropriated. It was stated by the police that the defendant had been appointed to collect union fees, which were later to be handed over to the Union secretary. He had collected £ll2/10/- but had failed to account for part of this sum.
