I The longest match in the first round of the English golf championship at Saunton saw the defeat of T. A. Bourn, winner in 1930, by Arundell Clarke, at the 24th hole. Throughout the previous day Bourn was at the bedside ■ of his wife, formerly a Sydney girl, who was ill in a Barnstaple hospital. In consequence he went out for his game ' without having practice, and missed a i six-inch putt for victory on the 21st | green.
