PLEASANT POINT
GARDEN PARTY The annual garden party under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church was held at the Manse yesterday afternoon. The Rev. W. McNeur said that financially the garden party was a great success. The large crowd present appeared to spend freely at the various stalls. The stall holders were—Work, Mrs J. Smith, Mrs A. Gray, Mrs A. Davison and Mrs E. Halstead; cake, Mrs Bishop and Mrs Hammond; sweets, Mrs McPherson, Mrs Turnbull and Mrs Tozer; produce, Mrs M. Maze, Mrs Smillie and Mrs C. Struthers; novelty, Mrs R. Murphy, Mrs L. Smith and Miss M. Morrison; Christmas, Misses Maze (2) and Crombie. Afternoon tea. Miss A. Maze, Mrs C. Chapman, Mrs Crombie and committee. Children’s running races and treasure hunts were a particular feature. Competitions resulted as follows: Stepping competition, H. Maxwell, exact distance 40 yards 5 Inches. Croquet, Mr F. E. G. Malcolmson. QUEEN CARNIVAL Intense interest is being displayed in the forthcoming carnival to be held under the auspices of the Bowling and Croquet Clubs. Sub-committees are already at work making preliminary arrangements for the candidature of the respective queens, and with the support and co-operation of the general public it is hoped that an early start will be made with the clearing of the site and laying down of the greens. ST. JOSEPH’S CONVENT The following are the results of the theory examination held in December last in connection with Trinity College of Music. Senior—Noreen Fleming, 66, pass. Advanced Intermediate Beattie Tailor, 82, pass with merit; Dorothy Davison, 81, pass with merit. Intermediate—Leonard Bowman, 92, honours. Junior—Josephine Friel, 99, honours; Una Blissett, 91. honours.
