FOOTBALL CLUB

A SOUND PO ITION About 35 members attended the annual meeting of the Geraldine Football Club on Tuesday evening, the president, Mr W. H. Jackson, occupying the chair. The annual report (previously published) and the balance-sheet, which showed that the year had commenced with a credit balance of 18/6 and concluded with a credit of £22/17/11, were adopted on the motion of the president and Mr W. A. Robinson. The retiring president (Mr Jackson) paid a tribute to the services of the honorary secretary, Mr W. McCullough. It was decided to write to Mr A. N. Loach, who resigned from the position of hon. treasurer as he had left the district, expressing appreciation of his services as treasurer, committee member, team captain and general enthusiast in establishing the senior team. An appreciative reference to the services of Mr A. K. Provan was made by Mr Jackson, who said that as senior coach Mr Provan had made a considerable difference to the team. He hoped Mr Provan would continue his services. Twelve new members were elected. Mr Jackson remarked that it was incumbent upon him to make some mention of the ladies' committee, which had been formed with the idea of raising funds for the club. The ladies had raised £23/12/6 towards the end of last season, which had been a very fine effort. It had been one of the most heartening things which had happened since the speaker’s association with the club, and it had really marked the turning point in its career. Turnbull mar’ - reference to the long and helpful services of Mr Roberts and the Roberts family. He praised Mr Roberts sporting spirit and happy disposition and said he had been a real father to the club. He moved that a record be placed on the books of appreciation of Mr Roberts’ service and that he be made the first life member. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr Roberts in reply mentioned how once he had been a non-golfer but Dr Milne had brought him into the game and he had always been glad and had enjoyed further' ig the sport. He accepted the position of first life member with gratitude. It was left to thf ’ady members to meet and form a ladies committee. The general committee was appointed a grounds committee. The subscriptions were fixed at women 15/-, men 30/-; members under 18 half price, school children 5/-. The club day was axed for Saturday’s. The opening day was left to be arranged by the committee with a recommendation that it be as soon as possible. Recommendations to the incoming committee were that a ladder be arranged and ladder matches played in conjunction with other club matches; that the committee go into the question of insurance and joining tile P.G.A. and L.G.U., and that club matches have only one week-end in which to be played. The incoming ladies’ captain. Miss I. Millan presented a challenge cup to toe committee to be played for in a seale 1 hole handicap match, men and women to be eligible. EX-PUPILS’ ASSOCIATION

Delegates who had waited on the Bowling Club some time ago in connection with the proposed queen carnival stated at Tuesday’s meeting of the execut've that it wa.-. understood the association would get a third share of any profits accruincg f-rom such a carnival, but as the Bowling Club’s new proposal differed from the original one the association felt it could not join in, but as individuals they would give the project their support. The dance held recently was considered very successful. The donors of prizes Mesdames Cunningham and Muller and Messrs Hammond and Crawford were accorded a vote of thanks. Two social evenings were arranged one in honour of Miss M. Crossman and Mr D. Bishop two members of the association whose marriage is approaching. A further guest of honour at this social will be Mr B. Sutherland of the local Post Office staff who is being transferred to Christchurch. A second function a members’ social is to take place at an early date.
