Store sheep.—A heavy entry sold at a slight increase on the firm rates ruling at recent fairs. Good twotooths sold at up to 46/-, and four-year to 30/- Failing mouthed ewes were also in keen demand. Fat lambs.—The entry sold freely at slightly more than schedule rates for butchers sorts, exporters taking the remainder. Fat sheep—Prime wethers were in good demand as also were export ewes, but medium wethers were a shade easier. Best wethers made from 29/to 35/-, and best ewes from 22/- to 25/-. Fat cattle.—A heavy entry of 500 head sold at the best of last week's rates, the holiday demand stimulating competition. Best steers made £l2 to £l5/10/-, prime medium £lO/10/- to £ll/15/-, best heifers to £ll, good sorts £B/10/- to £lO and good cows £8 to £lO/10/-. Fat pigs—Porkers were easier by 2/to 3/- a head, but baconers showed no change. Porkers made 33/6 to 47/6 (average price per lb sid to 6d) and baconers 44 6 to £5/7/6 (average price per lb 51d to sid). The yarding numbered 340 head. Prime heavy bullocks made to £l5/12/6, prime £ll/10/- to £l2/10/-, medium £9 to £lO/10/-, and light down to £6/10/-. Extra prime cows and heifers brought to £lO/12/6, prime £7/10/- to £B/17/6, medium £5/10/- to £6/10/-, and light down to £3/10/-. The yarding of stores totalled 200 head including a consignment of station cattle which met with good competition and realised £6/2/- to £8 19/- for three and four-year-olds. In the fat sheep pens there were 1650 forward and there was a general firming. Prime heavy wethers sold to 33/-, prime 28 6 to 31/-, medium 25/- to 27/6, and light down to 21/-. Prime ewes brought 22/6 to 26/-, medium 19/- to 21/-, and light down to 15/-. Approximately 650 fat lambs were entered and prices were firm at late rates. Prime heavy lambs made 32/1, prime 26/- to 27/6, medium 21/6 to 23/- and light down to 15/-. The 127 fat pigs forward sold at recent values. Porkers were worth £2/5/- to £3, and baconers £3 to £4/3/-. GERALDINE STOCK SALE MODERATE YARDING A special stock sale was held yesterday at the Geraldine saleyards. About 800 fat lambs, two races of fat sheep and 2000 stores were yarded. Fat sheep and fat lambs did not meet with the same competition as they did at the previous market, nevertheless, all lots were sold. The store sheep sale was a keen one in spite of the fact that few good breeding ewes came to hand. Good rape lambs commanded keen competition. The pig market was on a par with the previous sale. There was a yarding of approximately 17.000 sheep at yesterday’s ewe fair at Studholme Junction, the entries being ever.ly divided between ewe lambs and annual drafts. The sale, taken generally, was disappointing for older sheep, showing an easing on other markets, but young sheep, and sheep of rutstanding quality sold at late rates.
