Mr C. P. Smith, district inspector of factories for Taranaki, who has been in charge of the Labour Department office at New Plymouth for several years, has been appointed as a senior inspector for the Department at Auckland.

Advice has been received from London that Messrs J. S. Roberts and F. Smart, M.Sc., of the Wellington City Engineer’s Department, have been successful in passing the examinations for associate membership in the Institution of Structural Engineers.

Sir James Allan, who is a Grand Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George, has received advice from Sir Frank Swettenham, King of Arms, that a mercurial gilt plate bearing his name has now been affixed in the St. Michael and St. George Chapel in St. Paul’s Cathedral, London.

Professor H. E. Field, the newly-appointed Professor of Education at Canterbury University College, arrived by the Niagara. He was formerly assistant lecturer in philosophy at the college, and was more recently lecturer in education at the University of London.
