FACE PACKS

Most women who have tried them, find that face packs are really beneficial to their skin (writes Marion Morton in the “Cape Times”). They make the skin look fresh and lovely as soon as the treatment is over, and, what is equally important, they have a really lasting effect. For a good face pack dives down into the pores of the skin and takes away all the dirt which even the most careful cleansing sometimes fails to remove. Then, as the pack dries, it has an astringent effect, and closes the pores, as well as having an uplifting effect upon the contours of the face. Some packs also have a stimulating effect upon the skin, and you can feel the pleasant tingling as the blood courses quickly just beneath it. And. as though this were not all that could be expected from one face pack, many of them also bleach the skin, and you will find it several shades lighter when you remove the pack. There are some face-packs which are intended to dry quite hard, and to form a mask over the face which has to be bathed off with water. These are the packs to use at intervals of a week, or a month, according to whether you are not-so-young, or in your early twenties.

There are packs for dry skins, and packs for oliy skins. Even if you are in the “dry” category, you may be able to use almost any pack if you smear a faint layer of skin food over the skin after cleansing the face, and before opening the pores with a hot towel and spreading the pack over the skin. Then, when the pack is quite dry, remove it by a sponge filled with tepid water. Pat the skin dry, and, if it is at all sensitive, smear over another layer of skin food and leave for half-an-hour before removing it. A quicker treatment is given by cleansing the face by applying a cream pack, and removing it ten minutes later by a pad of cotton wool wrung out in a mild skin tonic. These cream packs have an instantaneous effect, and are lovely to use just before a party. A great many of them are not a bit drying to the most sensitive skin.
