POLICE RECAPTURE ESCAPEE ARREST EFFECTED AT WOODVILLE Bv Feiegrapu Pieat .0r..-. PALMERSTON N., March 10. The hunt for William Joseph Fox, who escaped sensationally from a train at Stratford on Monday night while being escorted to prison ended at Woodville late this afternoon, his rearrest being effected by a party of Palmerston North and Feilding police under Inspector J. Cummings. The wanted man was taken completely by surprise and submitted without any demonstration. Since Fox’s escape was first noticed, both the Palmerston North and Feuding police have been keeping a strict vigil on all the main entrances to the district. The first intimation that the man of his description was in the vicinity was secured by Sergeant Angland, of Feilding, and as a result the search was intensified, as many as 16 members of the police force being detailed for this special duty. The next news of Fox came from Yoodville, for which place Inspector Cummings set out immediately, accompanied by Sergeant Angland, Constables Turnbull and Johnston (Feilding), Chapman and Bowley (Palmerston North), and Detectives Power and Compton (Palmerston North). At Woodville they were joined up by Constable Innter. Smart team work was responsible for Fox being located at a house situated in a hollow. This place the police surrounded. Inspector Cummings and the two detectives entered the building and found Fox in the kitchen. There he submitted to arrest. Fox was then brought back to Palmerston North and placed safely under lock and key again. He will appear before the Court again to-morrow and probably be remanded to appear at New Plymouth. It appears that after his escape at Stratford. Fox remained there on Monday night and set out southwards next morning.
