SMUGGLING CHARGE

SEAMAN FINED £25 By Telegraph Press* Association AUCKLAND, March 9. A plea of guilty to a charge of smuggling 12,600 cigarettes and 21b. of tobacco into New Zealand on March 7 was entered by Arthur James Norris, a member of the crew of the motor ship Hauraki. The Inspector of Customs (Mr McIntosh) said the accused came ashore with two bags containing 10,700 American cigarettes. The remainder of the cigarettes and tobacco were found in his cabin. The Magistrate imposed the minimum fine of £25 and ordered the forfeiture of the goods.
