At yesterday’s conference of the New Zealand Institute of Town Clerks in Timaru, Mr J. F. Menzies (Sumner) referred to the retirement from the office of president of Mr P. Skoglund (Stratford), and it was agreed that his outstanding services for many years be placed on record.

Regret at the sudden death of Colonel G. F. C. Campbell, Auditor-General, was expressed at a meeting of the South Canterbury Electric Power Board yesterday. The chairman (Mr G. Dash) said that only a few days before his death Colonel Campbell had visited the Board’s offices. A motion of sympathy was accorded the relatives.

The employees of Evans and Co. Ltd. (Atlas Flour Mills) made a presentation to Mr James Freeman, who has retired on pension after completing 47i years’ service. The managing director (Mr J. W. Fair) spoke of the long and faithful service of Mr Freeman, which was fully appreciated by the company. He extended his and the directors’ best wishes to Mr Freeman for a very happy retirement, and on behalf of the employees presented the guest with a Morris chair. The manager (Mr J. Venning), Mr F. Spurden (head miller), Mr H. Schaab (assistant miller) and Mr W. Davie (carter) endorsed the chairman’s remarks.
