DOMINION PIPE BAND CONTEST That the success of the contest was assured by the excellent entry of competing bands was the unanimous opinion of the executive which met last night. There were present Messrs Wm. Duncan (president), Duncan Cameron. J. N. McLean. J. Toneycliffe. senr., Z. Simmonds, S. F. Hansen, J. A. Weir, W. S. Young, H. SinclairThompson, R. W. Munro, G. Ford, J. J. Pearse, W. W. Best, F. C. Chittock. E. Budd, J. J. Duncan, W. J. Ruston. G. D. Maxwell, A. Mathieson, W. D. Hume, F. W. Triggs and the secretary (Mr P. W. Young). Advice was received that the Wanganui, Dunedin, Christchurch, and Timaru Pipe Bands had entered for the A Grade, and Temuka, Fairlie. Ashburton and Christchurch Scottish for the B Grade. This will ensure a full afternoon’s activities and a maximum of display for the public. The Finance Committee reported that guarantees to the extent of £225 had been received. Mr A. Mclntyre, of Christchurch, was appointed musical judge. Mr R. Will was selected as the judge of dress and instruments. The trophy and medal sub-committee recommended that 10 gold medals and 50 silver medals be obtained for presentation to bandsmen. Members reported that further generous donations of medals and trophies had been received.
