OVERSEAS TRADE

EXPORTS AT HIGH LEVEL The values of export and imports during January were higher than any January figures for several years. According to returns released by the Customs Department, exports last month were valued in New Zealand currency at £7,040,051, or nearly £1,000,000 in excess of those for January, 1936, and nearly £2,000,000 above those for January, 1935. The increase is largely accounted for by the much higher prices ruling for wool this season. Imports last month were valued »n New Zealand currency at £4,665,416, or more than £1,000,000 above those for January, 1936.
