GIFT TO COUNCIL

PHOTOGRAPH OF PIPE BAND Drum-Major W. Andrew, Pipe-Major W. Morrison and Sergeant-Major A. Mathieson, representing the Timaru Highland Pipe Band, waited on the Timaru Borough Council last night and presented the Council with a framed enlarged photograph of the Band, which at present is the champion Highland Band of the Dominion. The presentation was made by DrumMajor Andrew, who apologised lor the abser.ee of the president. Mr W. D. Hume. He said that after Easter the Band might not be the champions, and they felt that the present was an opportune time to make the presentation.

In accepting the gift on behalf of the Borough, the Mayor (Mr P. C. Vinnell) said he appreciated the spirit which had prompted the gift. The Band was one of which the town might well be proud. Not only had they brought honour to the town, but they gave freely of their services, and without it being expected of them, and they should bear this in mind, when recognising the worth of such an organisation. Any organisation which endeavoured to help on the life of the town was deserving of the Council. They appreciated the gift very much, and the photograph would be hung in a conspicuous place in the Council buildings. The Mayor concluded by wishing the Band every success in the forthcoming championships.
