HIGHER TOBACCO SALES The chairman of the British American Tobacco Company at the last annual meetirig in London said that the sales of the company’s goods during the year 1935-36 were greater than during thq year 1934-35, arid sales of the first three months of the current year were greater than the corresponding period last year. Owing to exchange difficulties, taxation, restrictions by way of duties and otherwise which Had been placed by many Governments on the importation of goods into foreign countries, the additional profits which might be expected did not always materialise. The chairman thought that so long as the company could go on increasing its trade throughout the world shareholders might expect to see this reflected in the profits and dividends. WOOLWORTH, LTD., LONDON A record net profit of £5,832,442 was earned by F. W. Woolworth and Co., London last year, against £5,298,404 for the previous year. After deducting preference dividend the profit is equal to 152 per cent on the old capital as it has been doubled by the recent capitalisation of reserves; The dividend for the year is 120 per cent on the paid capital, against 100 per cent in 1935.
