INFANTILE PARALYSIS
WAIMATE CASES One patient, a boy of eight, who was admitted to the Waimate Hospital on Tuesday, suffering from infantile paralysis, died last night. A suspect, a boy aged two, who was admitted yesterday, was diagnosed as negative last evening. There are now six cases in the Waimate Public Hospital. Although final advice from the Education Department had not been received last evening, it is considered extremely unlikely that the schools at Waimate will open again on Monday. There have been two more cases of infantile paralysis reported during the week and, in anticipation of the restrictions not being lifted, preparations have already been made at both the High School and the primary school to institute correspondence courses from Monday next. A NEW PATIENT By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, March 4. The first case of Infantile paralysis in the Dunedin area since February 4 was admitted to the hospital this morning. The patient is a boy of four with signs of paralysis. A boy of 12, at Bannockburn, Central Otago, has been admitted with positive paralysis, although not serious.
