LOCAL BODY MERGERS
OPINION OF LEVELS COUNTY “As far as I can see we are not likely to be absorbed by anyone,” said the chairman of the Levels County Council (Mr T. B. Garrick) at yesterday’s meeting of the Council in referring to the proposed Local Government Amalgamation Schemes Bill. They were obtaining fair efficiency in the county now, said- the chairman, and he took it that it was all a matter of expenditure. The county had a capital value of £3.000,000 and once the question of converging traffic was settled as a result of the introduction of State highways. Levels would be all rig it. Mr T. M Brosnah"" considered that the Council could not improve on the present efficiency. It was agreed to advise the Internal Affairs Department that in the oninion of the Council the present system was satisfactory.
