AFTER-HOURS TRADING
GROCERS CONCERNED A general meeting of the South Canterbury Master Grocers’ Association was held on Wednesday, when a representative gathering of South Canterbury members received the, report of the president, Mr C. D. Gibson, as delegate to the master grocers’ annual conference, held in Christchurch. Following a general outline of the business dealt with and suggested for the ensuing year, and expressing appreciation of the excellent entertainment provided for delc- : gates, Mr Gibson was accorded a vote ! of thanks for his report. Among the general Association business dealt with, the meeting expressed concern and discussed fully the con- • tinued Sunday and after-hour trading I in South Canterbury. The following resolution was passed unanimously: “That this Association ; views with concern the increasing practice of Sunday and after-hour trading, as being a distinct breach of the law and a grossly unfair trading method; and that the attention of the I local Inspector of Shops and Offices and the police authorities be drawn to this matter in an endeavour to control these offences in South Canterbury.”
