Mrs Hudson. Fairlie, has left to join her husband in Sydney, Mr and Mrs 11. S. Murray, Scargill, are at the Grosvenor. Mrs R. H. Rhodes, “Carne,” Sealy Street, who is on a visit to Christchurch, is expected home to-day. Misses Chassie and Maude Howden, Park Lane, will leave to-day on a visit to England. Mrs A. E. Kerr and Miss Helen Kerr, “Belmont,” Cave, will leave to-day on a trip to England. Miss Dorothy Walton, Park Lane, has returned from a short visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs P. Geeves, Fairlie, and Mr and Mrs W. Ashbridge, Wellington, are at the Empire. Mr and Mrs T. Pryde, Invercargill, and Mr J. Skottoewe Webb, Christchurch, are at the Grand. Mr and Mrs H. F. Nicoll, Ashburton, and Mr and Mrs W. J. Innes, Mackenzie Country, are at the Grosvenor. Guests at the Grosvenor include Mr and Mrs W. G. Rudd and Mr and Mrs W. A. Ross, Dunedin. Mrs Mitchell, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs W. T. Ritchie, “Te Tawa,” has left on her return to Sydney. Miss Vivien Raymond, Pleasant Point, will leave to-day on a trip to England. Miss Knubley, Sarah Street, who will accompany her to Wellington will pay a visit to Mrs Paul Brodrick, Martinborough, before returning home.
Mr H. F. Nicoll, president of the New Zealand Trotting Association, and a prominent Ashburton farmer, was married yesterday in Christchurch to Mrs Earle Riddlford, of Masterton. Mr and Mrs Nicoll will reside part of the time in Ashburton and part in Christchurch.
In honour of Miss Maytel Titheridge, whose marriage to Mr Eric Trounce will take place this month, more than 60 friends gathered at a “kitchen evening” in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Geraldine. Music was provided by Mr J. H. Prentice, and extras were played by Mr W. Shute. On behalf of those present, Mr E. P. Bennett presented the guest of honour with many useful gifts and wished her success and happiness in her married life. Mr Trounce replied for Miss Titheridge. Mr F. Heney was M.C.
Mrs A. J. Bell, Geraldine, was hostess at a very happy little function yesterday afternoon in honour of her mother, Mrs S. Hughes, of New Plymouth, and an early resident of Geraldine. on the occasion of her eightieth birthday. Several old friends were present and the guest of honour was accorded a welcome to her home district. Reminiscences of former times added to the joy of the re-union. In the evening Mrs Bell again acted as hostess at a similar function, at which both old and young gathered to wish Mrs Hughes a very happy birthday. It is pearly a quarter of a century since a meeting of the International Council of Nurses was held in London, the last being held in Paris and Brussels in July, 1934. This year the Quadrennial Congress is to be held in July in London, and the following members of the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association have been chosen as delegates to attend this congress:—Miss J. Bicknell, A.R.R.C., R.N., R.M. (President of the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association), Miss M. Lambie, R.N., R.M., P.H.D. (Director of Nurses), Miss N. Arnold, R.N., R.M. (Matron of St. Helen’s Hospital, Wellington), Miss Mirams, R.N., R.M., (Nurse Inspector, Health Department, Auckland), Miss F. Wilson, R.R.C., R.N., R.M. (Matron, “Limes” Private Hospital, Christchurch).
