TRADE IN JAPAN
ABOLITION OF PERPETUAL LEASES United Frees Association—By fflectnc Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 3, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 2 The British and Japanese Governments, after several years of negotiations, have reached an agreement for the abolition after 1942 of the perpetual leases in Japan which are held by British traders, who after that date will forego their exemption from land and other taxes and will occupy the same position as the rest of the community. It was feared that, falling an agreement, the Japanese would unilaterally denounce the leaseholders’ status quo.
