NEW ZEALAND TOURING TEAM By Telegraph—Pres Association PALMERSTON N.. March 3 Endeavours are being made by the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce to ensure that Norman Gallichan. the Manawatu cricketer, becomes a member of the New Zealand side to visit England. It was decided last evening to ask the New Zealand Council whether Gallichan would be accepted if the finance was raised to meet the expense of an additional player. Members said that there would be no difficulty in raising the money by public subscription.
It is not a matter of money, the Chamber of Commerce has been informed in connection with the decision to raise the necessary finance to have Gallichan included in the New Zealand team to tour England. Mr A. J. Graham, president of the Chamber, was in touch by telephone with Mr A. T. Donnelly, chairman of the management committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council, and was informed definitely that lack of finance had been no barrier to the inclusion of a fifteenth man in the team. The position was that the Cricket Council had decided to send only 14 men and those players had been selected. However, should it eventually "be decided to strengthen the team by sending an extra man, the selectors would be asked to make a further choice. There the matter rested in the meantime.
