EARLY MORNING BLAZE

HOUSE IN SOUTH STREET GUTTED BY FIRE

Fire completely gutted a wooden house in South Street in the early hours of this morning. The blaze apparently started at the rear of the building and fanned by a strong southerly breeze, it soon had a firm hold. The Fire Brigade was called out, but it was soon apparent that its task was hopeless. Tire house was occupied by Mr J. O’Shannessey, a bridge inspector in the Railway Department.
