PUBLIC HOARDINGS

EXCEPTION TAKEN TO LIQUOR ADVERTISEMENTS Bv Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, December 21. Members of the Christchurch City Council to-night refrained from discussing a request from the North Canterbury Methodist Synod that public hoardings should not I a used for liquor advertisements.

Cr. Lyons moved that the resolution be referred to the advertising companies controlling the hoardings. He said that this would let the companies know that a certain sentiment existed in a section of the community. “It is for the companies to respect it or not,” he said. “The council need not take sides.” The amendment was lost and a motion previously moved by Cr. E. H. Andrews was carried that the letter be referred to the town clerk who orr”-arily censors hoarding advertisements.
