WEEKLY DANCE There was a good attendance at the weekly dance arranged by the social committee of the Victoria Hall. Miss G. Bowers played an extra. Mrs J J. Kenny and Mr C. Tiplady won the Monte Carlo. Messrs W. J. Jackson and J. Cripps were masters of ceremonies. PERSONAL Miss K. M. Hopkinson of the Winchester School staff, will spend a part of the vacation motoring to the Southern Lakes. Mr and Mrs A. Stewart, Abbotsford, are spending Christmas with their daughter, Mrs A. E. Rissmann, Winchester. Misses M. and A. White, Winchester, will spend the holidays in Timaru. Mr and Mrs J. R. Finmore are spending the holidays at Christchurch. Miss E. McArthur of the Winchester School staff, will spend the holidays camping at Raincliff. Miss J. Chissall, Woodbury, who has beer, staying with Mrs J. Deßenzy. has returned home. Mr and Mrs L. H. Orbell are leaving Winchester to-morrow to spend a fortnight’s holiday with their son, Dr. G. B. Obrell, Invercargill. Mrs G. B. Orbell will spend Christmas with her mother, Mrs A. L. Houston, St. Albans. Miss M. Moore will be the guest of her sister, Mrs A. G. Hart, Rosewill, for the holidays. SCHOOL PRIZE LIST The school prize list is as under:— Dux: Rene Gray. ANDREWS SPECIAL CHURCH SERVICE On Sunday afternoon at the St Andrews Presbyterian Church a special service was held at which the memorial tablet, the late G. Porter’s name being added, was unveiled. The service was conducted by the Rev. Patterson, who took his text from Ist Samuel, 3rd chapter 10th verse: “Speak Lord for thy servant heareth.” Mrs T. Pooke presided at the organ. Mr W. Annett, senr., in unveiling the tablet, said it was with mixed feelings of regret and pleasure that he recalled the passing of Mr Porter, who t> onsecrated himself to the task furthering the well being of his lellowmen.

Mr Patterson thanked those members of the congregation who had assisted in the upkeep of the church and grounds. The Sunday School prizegiving had been cancelled and tributes to the work of the teachers— Mrs Rogers (superintendent), Misses E. Dash, D. Wilkie and Mr W. Milliken —were paid by the minister. Pratt, junr.. is the guest of his parents, “Beach House,” Pareora East. Mr Teschemaker-Chute will pay a short visit to “Alpine Fann,” Maungati, as the guest of Mr and Mrs B. E. Evans, over the holidays. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Owing to the postponement of tne Christmas party there was a poor attendance at the December meeting of the St. Andrews Women's Institute. Mrs W. E. Mills presided. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs Cook and to Mrs O’Neill. Miss Wilkie gave a most comprehensive report on the half yearly meeting of the South Canterbury Federation. Mrs Mills gave a short talk on Mrs Watt and told of the benefit derived from her visit.

Miss Arden reported on an enjoyable party the delegate had attended at Otipua. It was decided to hold the annual picnic at “Scotston” on January 14 The children's party will be held at the February meeting.
