DEMONSTRATION OF SCOUT WORK
RALLY AT MANAWATU SHOWGROUNDS Upwards of 300 Scouts and Cubs, including a big contingent from Hutt Valley and the Wellington Bays, assembled at the Manawatu Showgrounds last Saturday afternoon for a rally, part of the activities in connection with the special Scout week, designed to bring the movement more under the notice of the public and to raise funds for a new Scout hall. Favoured by glorious weather, the Scouts had a most enjoyable time, and their activities were watched by a number of interested spectators.
The proceedings opened with a march into the oval. Commissioner J. F. Vogel iof Wellington, representing Deminion headquarters. Commissioner N. D. Stubbs (Manawatu) and Commisl sioner Service ( Auckland) being on i the dais. Following the Dominion I haka. Commissioner Vogel presented i messages from the Governor-General I (the Chief Scout) and the Dominion I Chief Commissioner iDr P. ClennellFenwick. of Christchurch), wishing the Scouts an enjoyable afternoon and the movement every success.
The Scouts then went off to their various displays and erected, among other things, a rope bridge, two aerial runways, a lay-out for a camp,. a wood-craft crane, a small manuka bridge and a camp loom. While this was going on, the cubs w ere holding a chariot, race, which was won by All Saints' pack, while jungle dances were demonstrated. The proceedings concluded with a march past the Commissioners on the stand.
