HIGHFIELD GROUP
TWO TRIBES FORMED Steady growth in numbers resulted in the Highfield Troop being split into two tribes; one the Arawa tribe meeting on Thursdays under Scouters Hayman and Andrews and the other the Tainui tribe meeting on Fridays under G.S.M. E. Manthrop and Scouters Thomson and Johnson. This leaves them more time to deal more fully with the individual. St. Mary's Troop are at present meeting as a patrol with the Highfield Troop. This arrangement should be beneficial to St. Marys and should be the means of keeping them together until they gain in numbers again. A.S.M. D. McGlashan will still be carrying on as A S M. with the Troop.
Meetings have been outdoors for the greater part of the time and preparatory camp work is being done. Gadgets, fires, and general camp work have been practised. It has been decided. to award a Maori name to each First Class Scout. This will stimulate interest in Maori Legends and Maori lore.
Camp will be held shortly after Christmas and preliminary arrangements have been made and so far indications are for a successful camp. Rovers The Rover Crew have taken up Ambulance work and are at present undergoing a course of instruction preparatory to the Senior Examination for the St. John Ambulance Brigade alternate evenings are being spent in seagrass work and already stools are taking shape.
D.C.M. R. Dunlop of Caulfield, Melbourne Australia, has been a visitor to the Crew recently and the Highfield crew have formed contact, with Caulfield Crew to which Ron belongs. .
