To refurnish the new club rooms of the Young Men’s Christian Association a novel suggestion has been made. In view of the large number of people who are building new homes, refurnishing, spring cleaning, etc., it has been suggested that any discarded furniture, curtainings, etc., or crockery be donated to the Y.M.C.A. By realising on these things an easy way out would be found to meet the difficulty of raising funds to furnish the club rooms. Donors wishing to assist kindly ring the General Secretary, Cannon Street, telephone 1358, and any gifts of such a nature will be called for The Scottish Society’s popular weekly dance will be held to-night in the Scottish Hall at 8 o’clock. The Rev. Clyde Carr, M.P. will address the electors in the Scottish Hall, on Wednesday, Dectnber 2, at 8 p.m. on the new legislation and work of the session. In the event of rain the garden party to be held at 90 Otipua Road to-day will be held in St. Peter’s Hall, Kensington. On Thursday, December 10, at 36 Park Lane, Morton and Co. will sell on account of the Public Trustee in the estate of the late I. W. Ritchie his attractive brick bungalow, also the choice and modem furniture and furnishings. Everything is equal to new. Particulars can be seen in auction columns.

Dance patrons are reminded of the Fairview Hall Committee’s dance to be held on Wednesday, December 9.

The Railway Department advertises in this issue particulars of the alteration to Sunday morning trains between Christchurch and Timaru from and including Sunday, December 6.

Immediately after the property auction the surplus household furniture on account of Pastor L. C. Naden will be submitted. On Saturday, December 12 at 26 Davie Street, Temuka, complete household furniture and also the property will be offered on account of the executor of the will of the late Mrs C. M. Donnithome. An extraordinary auction sale of unusually choice and valuable furniture under instructions from the trustees in the estate of the late James Lillico will also be held on Tuesday, December 15, at the comer of Grey Road and Sefton Street. Mr Don Mclnnes, of Timaru, a graduate of the Otago School of Massage, and who headed the list at the final examinations, was awarded a pass “with distinction.” He immediately proceeded to England and en-

tered the Manchester .Foot Hospital, and word has just been received that he was successful in again being placed in the premier position at the final examinations, and was awarded a special prize. He is the first New Zealander to gain this distinction. The Manchester School is the largest of its kind in Europe, and approximately 300 patients are treated every day. Mr Mclnnes has been admitted as a Member of the National Institute of Chiropodists (M.N.I.Ch.), and has been asked to contribute a series of articles on special subjects relative to foot disabilities and deformities, these articles being for insertion in the Institute’s magazine “The Chiropody Practitioner.’” Mr Mclnnes is now in London gaining still further experience, and will be returning to New Zealand early in the coming year. In connection with the classes in aeronautical engineering recently commenced at the Palmerston North Technical School, advice has been received that a Bristol Fighter machine will be flown from Wigram next week and handed over to the school for instructional purposes.—Press Association message from Palmerston North. A former resident of Timaru, Mr Brian Low, who is a graduate of Canterbury College, is at present a resident of Nankin, China. He plans to return to New Zealand early next year. As personal assistant to Dr. J. Lossing Buck, head of the Department of Agriculture and Economics, under the Chinese Central Government, with headquarters at Nankin, Mr Low is engaged on soil survey work. During the last three years Mr Low made a long trip to Tibet, on behalf of the Chinese Government. He is a son of Mr B. H. Low, of Timaru, who has just returned from a trip to the East and Europe.
