SWIMMING
CHANGE OF HEADQUARTERS OPPOSED By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, November 27. A motion to rescind the Centre’s previous opposition to the Ot-ago remit that the headquarters of the New Zealand Swimming Association should be transferred from Christchurch to one of the other three leading cities of the Dominion, and that the Centre’s delegates to the next Council meeting should be instructed to vote for the motion, and to move that Wellington should be the new Centre, was lost by an overwhelming majority at a meeting of the Wellington centre of the New Zealand Swimming Assocition. One member said that domestic troubles seemed to be creeping in and upsetting several Centres throughout the Dominion. He thought that the only reason for Otago moving such a remit was because one of their swimmers was not included in the Olympic team, and he did not have a hope of getting into the final. Otago wanted the Council moved from Christchurch. The trouble now seemed to be spreading to Wellington. He thought they should have nothing to do with it, and let Dunedin’s domestic troubles stay in Dunedin. The chairman, Mr D. S. N. McCartney, said he felt that Wellington and all the other centres of New Zealand had been slightly by the Council. He thought that the headquarters should be in Wellington, as the Council should be the body to approach the Government on national swimming matters. Mr P. F. Coir a moved that the executive should be instructed to prepare a report on the question of the revision of the Constitution of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association to provide that the annual meeting should be comprised of delegates from the various districts, and that the Council should be elected directly from that meeting. “I think that will do away wi ll a lot of the dissatisfaction which does exist,” said Mr Coira. The motion was carried unanimously.
