Messrs B. T. Cobum and I. J. Campbell (Christchurch) are staying at the Grand. Mr C. Morrison (Auckland) is staying at the Grosvenor. Messrs C. Buss (Fairlie), A. R. Kemp (Wellington), E. R. Rawnsley and D. Wrigley (Christchurch) <are staying at the Dominion. Messrs B. A. Titshall (Auckland), C. Crowley and St. C. W. Preston (Christchurch) are staying at the Empire. Messrs J. Hawke, H. F. Hanna, D. R. Leggat, W. H. Knowles and Edward Barry (Christchurch) are guests at the Balmoral. Sir Harry Lauder will arrive in New Zealand about the end of January and will spend some time here on a fishing holiday. Mr R. E. R. Grimmett, M.Sc., F.N.Z.1.C., has been appointed Officer-in-Charge, Chemistry Section, Department of Agriculture. Mr A. P. Grant, assistant engineer to the Public Works Department, Auckland, has received notice of his transfer to Palmerston North. Mr Wallace Robertson, formerly of Tlmaru, where he was a foremost tennis player, and now a member of the staff of the Bank of New South Wales, Invercargill, has received intimation of his transfer to the Sydney office of the bank. Mr Alan R. Blakeley, formerly of Kaiapoi and Wellington, has been appointed assistant electrical engineer at the India Government Office, London, attached to the office of the High Commissioner for India in England. Regret at the recent sudden death of Mr P. R. Harman (Christchurch), formerly secretary of the South Island Motor Union for 16 years, was expressed by the president (Mr S. G. McClelland) at the annual meeting of the Automobile Association (South Canterbury) last night. "He was a fine character and a likeable man whom it was a pleasure to meet,” said Mr McClelland.
