MOLYNEUX IN FLOOD
FARMERS HAVE ANXIOUS TIME By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, November 26. South Otago suffered considerable damage as a result of floods caused by heavy rain over the last two days, and had the downpour continued much longer the position must have been serious. Balclutha this morning presented the appearance of an island in a sea of water from the Molyneux River, but fortunately the township itself escaped. The efficacy of the recent protective works was strikingly demonstrated by the immunity of the borough from the flooding that caused a great deal of anxiety to stock owners outside the area at present enclosed by flood banks. The position outside the borough was very acute last night, many farmers being up all night building up banks in those places where stock tracks provided a place for the w’aters to break through.
Flooding also occurred in the Waitahuna district, many people having to leave their houses. Minor slips caused blockages on some roads.
