POPULAR TEACHER
FAREWELL TO MR R. ALLAN The popularity of Mr R. Allan, chief assistant master at the Waimataitai School, was forcibly demonstrated yesterday when he was the guest of honour at three farewell functions held at the school. In the morning the standard six pupils, who were under Mr Allan’s personal and kindly guidance, met to bid him good-bye, and presented him with a fountain pen and a pair of motoring gloves. The school and many interested parents assembled at 2.30 p.m., when, after complimentary reference had been made to Mr Allan’s association with the school, he was presented with a travelling case and a fishing rod. Mr Allan’s daughter, Vivian, was also farewelled by her school-mates, who gave her a doll as a parting gift. The staff and the committee entertained Mr and Mrs Allan at 3 p.m. and the good wishes of the hosts we’-e accompanied by an electric jug and an electric toaster. Mr Allan has been appointed headmaster of the Blackball school, and will leave to-day for the West Coast to take up his new position. Mr W. Blight, of Waimataitai School, will fill Mr Allan’s old position.
