MOTORING AFFAIRS ASSOCIATION MEETS The committee of the Waimate Automobile Association met yesterday. Present—Messrs W. L. Geddes (president), E. J. Meredith, C. Dickson, T. B. W. Hamilton, M. Mcßae, E. Englebrecht and J. Dempsey. The North Otago Association wrote drawing attention to a depression in the main road opposite the second road leading to Waimate, going north, and asked that a warning sign be erected, or the depression remedied. After discussion it was decided to write and ascertain more definitely where the depression was situated.
The South Island Travel Association forwarded a verbatim report of a deputation to the Minister of Railways, and by the Tourist Department, and urged that since a Government subsidy was not forthcoming, the South Island should be up and doing in its own interests. A statement of the Association’s financial position was also set out.
“They evidently want a donation,’’ said the chairman, who expressed the view that it was not the function of an Automobile Association to encourage tourist traffic.
The letter was received. The following new members were elected: Messrs J. W. Armstrong, F. Mcßae, M. Leadbetter, A. Scott (Waikakahl), R. A. Hayman (Willowbridge), H. W. King and S. H. Mead (Hakataramea).
