TRAVEL ASSOCIATION

HARBOUR BOARD SUPPORT The possible value of the South Island Travel Association as a means of encouraging more tourist traffic to Timaru was discussed by the Timaru Harbour Board at yesterday’s meeting. A letter was received from the Association asking the Board if it would send its subscription or part of it for the year. “If we are going to get more tourist traffic as a result we should give the Association a contribution,” said Mr F. R. Flatman. The chairman (Mr T. B. Garrick) said there was a possibility of such ships as the Maunganui visiting the port if tourist traffic was encouraged. Timaru was one of the most central ports in the Island for tourists, said Mr D. C. Kidd, who considered that the Association should do good work. The chairman explained that the Association would be an incorporated body and the levy on the Board this year would be £l4. Once the Board was in It would be a member for good. Mr W. Lindsay was of opinion that the Board should make a contribution this year, and if it was desirable membership could be secured later.

It was decided on the motion of Mr K. Mackenzie to make a grant of £lO this year.
