GAPES VALLEY GYMKHANA COMMITTEE MEETING The chairman (Mr A. Haywood), presided at a meeting of the Gapes Valley Gymkhana Committee. Mr K. Loach was added to the committee. It was reported that satisfactory arrangements had been made in regard to the provision of luncheon and afternoon tea at. the gymkhana and for supper for the dance. A sub-committee of ladies was appointed to arrange for a produce stall, etc. Mr A. McKenzie reported that Mr J. Nelson’s paddock would be available for the coursing events. The offer of Mrs F. Patrick to donate a cake was accepted with thanks. The following classes were arranged for the baby show: Boys, 6 months; girls, 6 months; boys, 12 months; girls, 12 months; boys, 18 months; girls, 18 months. Messrs K. Loach, E. Barker, H. Waller and A. Blair were appointed a dance committee. - RACE DAY EXODUS TO ORARI Business premises closed at 11.30 a.m. yesterday, and the customary exodus to Orari for the first day of the Geraldine Racing Club's meeting then commenced and the town bore a< deserted appearance for the remainder of the day. A successful dance tinder the auspices of the St. Patrick’s Dance Committee attracted a crowded attendance to the Town Hall last night. RIFLE SHOOTING GAPES VALLEY AND ORARI CLUBS The following scores were registered at the weekly shoot of the Gapes Valley Miniature Rifle Club: E. Barker, H. Waller, P. Patrick 77, E. Patrick, A. Haywood 76, A. Waller 75, A. Clements 73, A. Blair 73, A. McKenzie 72, W. G. Patrick, J, Waller, W. Haywood 71, A. Roberts 70. Mr T. Hall's trophy was won by J. Lang. At the weekly shoot of the Orari Men’s Club, Mr F. Martin’s trophy was won by R. Rodgers, while R. Davies won both the gold and silver buttons. Scores were as follow: R. Davies 80, L. Wood 79, C. Gould, E. R. O’Neill 78. E. W. Gilder 76, A. England, R. Rodgers 75, J. A. Henderson 74, L. Davies 74, T. Leary 70, S. Henderson 69, B. Hewson 66. “ HOP-A-LONG CASSIDY ” For years one of fiction’s favourite cowboys, “Hopalong Cassidy,” western hero of more than twenty books written by Clarence E. Mulford and read by thousands, makes his initial flesh and blood screen debut with William Boyd in the title role, at the Municipal Theatre at 8 o’clock to-night. “Hopalong Cassidy” deals with the early days of the West, forty or fifty years ago, in the days when the open range, cattle barons, rustlers and the six-gun was the law. Supports include a “Pop Eye the Sailor” Cartoon. Mr E.
