TRAFFIC INSPECTOR ASSAULTED By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, September 24. Mystery surrounds the assault on a traffic inspector, A. Cook, in Willis Street last evening, by an unidentified stranger. Cook now lies in the Wellington Hospital, suffering from concussion and a lacerated scalp, and the police are searching for his assailant. Cook was painting white lines on the street when a passing car knocked over the lamp he had placed on the ground nearby. He approached the driver of the car, and while they were talking a bystander interfered. Passers-by were amazed to see the man suddenly strike Cook a heavy blow on the jaw and then make off.
