BOWLING

SOUTH CANTERBURY CENTRE ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the South Canterbury Bowling Centre was held last evening. Present: Messrs R. G. Sampson (chairman), J. Moyes (Fairlie), E. J. Ellis (Ashbury), T. Currie (West End), L. Edyvean (Timaru), F. B. Hawkey (Park), J. B. Robertson (Waimate), W. J. Clarke (Temuka). M. Vucetich (Highfleld), and J. Gray (Kia Toa). In moving the adoption of the report (previously published) and the balance sheet, Mr Sampson referred to the loss the Centre had sustained through the removal of Mr R. W. Taylor from the district. The debit balance of £l/1/6 was unfortunate, but the prospects for the coming season were very much brighter. Throughout the season the weather had been bad for bowls, and frequent postponements had upset the playing of competitions. Fortunately, however, all the competitions except one had been completed. The- motion was carried after a short discussion. Election of Officers The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted.—President, Mr 11. G. Sampson; senior vice-president, Mr J. B. Robinson; junior vice-president, Mr F. B. Hawkey; auditor, Mr E. Darroch; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. L.

MR R. G. SAMPSON, elected president of the Centre. Mr Sampson is also well-known in Rugby circles. Thoreau; emergency committee, president, senior and junior vice-presidents and Mr M. Vucetich; selection and match committee, Messrs R. G. Sampson, T. Currie, J. Gray, E. J. Ellis. Mr Moyes suggested that a finance committee should be set up to assist the secretary and treasurer. In view of the condition of the finances, it seemed advisable that the Centre should draw up a budget for the coming season. It was certain that the expenses for the season would be increased, and if the Centre had to entertain outside visitors they would have no funds to do so. Messrs Sampson, Moyes and Ellis were appointed a finance committee accordingly. Bristol Cup Correspondence was received from the Timaru Club drawing the Centre’s attention to the Bristol Cup conditions which stated that challenges should be played on the holder’s green. The Timaru Club considered that the Centre had exceeded its jurisdiction in asking them to play a challenge match on the Park green. The club asked that its name be "ngraved on the cup as the winners for the 1935-36 season. Mr Sampson explained that Park held the Cup for most of the season. Timaru had taken the cup and Park had Issued a challenge, but Timaru could not play on their green because it was under repair. On the motion of Mr Ellis, it was decided to play the Timaru v. Park match at the beginning of the coming season the winner to have his name engraved on the cup as the winner of the 1935-36 season. It was decided to work the Centre championship on a four-rink system. It was further decided to play all champion of champion matches on the two-life system.
