WOMEN’S DIVISION

HOOK BRANCH At the September meeting of the Hook Branch of the W.D.F.U., the president, Mrs W. R. Todd presided over a good attendance of members. It was decided to hold a special meeting to discuss the holding of a concert. Mr While, Waimate, gave a very interesting talk on “Raising flowering plants by seeds,” which was enjoyed by all. He was accorded a vote of thanks for same. Competitions resulted:—Marble cake: Mrs T. Wilson 1, Miss F. Burness 2, Mrs Mason 3. Something made from one yard of britway: Mrs Stewart 1, Mrs D. Wilson 2, Miss F. Burness 3. Peggy squares: Mrs Stewart 1, Mrs Mason 2, Mrs Carter 3. Special bloom: Mrs T. Wilson 1, Mrs Henderson 2, Mrs Mason 3. A competition was won by Mrs MacKenzie. Hostesses for the afternoon were Misses M. and S. White and Mrs Henderson. HAZELBURN BRANCH At the September meeting of the Hazelbum branch of the Women’s Division, Mrs Shires, presided over a small attendance of members. Mrs N. Askin was elected a new member and was welcomed to the branch. An interesting talk, on how to cultivate hyacinths was given by Mrs Wollf, who also had some beautiful blooms on exhibition. Competitions resulted as follows: Special bloom: Mrs Wollf and Miss Howden (equal) 1, Mrs Wollf and Miss Howden (equal) 2. Afternoon tea was supplied by Mrs and Miss Howden.
