TIMARU HARBOUR
SECTION OF ACT TO BE REPEALED The Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Parry), has approved provisionally of the inclusion of a clause in the Local Legislation Bill to be presented during the present session of Parliament to repeal section 28 of
ahe Timaru Harbour Board Act 1876. The section to be repealed compels the Board to obtain the approval of a Royal Commission to any plans for improvement to the harbour, involving capital expenditure. The Minister, in a letter to the Rev Clyde Carr, M.P., who has, at the Board’s request sponsored the measure for the repeal of section 28 of the Act, states that he had gone fully into the circumstances of the Board’s application, and as a result is satisfied that the restrictive conditions imposed by the section are no longer necessary. Mr Carr expresses the opinion that the section probably will be repealed this session.
