DOMINION METEOROLOGIST (Forecast at 4 p.m. yesterday) General situation.—Though it has risen somewhat pressure is still low to the east and a series of secondaries continues to cross southern New Zealand. An anti-cyclone covers the whole of Australia. Winds—Southerly to south-westerly tending westerly at times from Cook Strait southwards, moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in places. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Rather rough north of East Cape, elsewhere rough with a heavy south-westerly swell. Eastern Tasman Sea—Strong southwesterly winds to gales with rough to high seas. Weather—For the most part fair but changeable and with scattered showers in most districts; snow on the ranges, and hail on parts of the coastal areas; temperatures cold.
