NEW ZEALANDERS IN FINAL MISS KAY’S OUTSTANDING DISPLAY United Press Association—By EDactric Telegraph—Copyright (Received September 2, 11.30 p.m.) ADELAIDE, September 2 Miss Oliver Kay won the women's golf championship of Australia, defeating Mrs R. D. Fullerton-Smith in the final to-day by 5 up and 4 to play. The weather was ideal. There was little between the New Zealanders, but Miss Kay was the steadier. Mrs Fuilerton-Smith was not driving well. She was pulling and slicing but she played wonderful recovery shots, hitting woods in the fairway with great power. Apart from a few loose shots, Miss Kay was steady all round. Her putting was deadly, and she seemed always to have the upper hand. Play in Morning Although Miss Kay lost the first hole when she pulled her second shot, an iron, she won the second hole in par five. Mrs Fullerton-Smith pulled her drive into the rough at the third, but she recovered wonderfully and halved in 4. The next three holes were halved, Miss Kay took the seventh, her opponent being bunkered. The match was squared at the next, Miss Kay taking five after a sliced drive. Mrs Fullerton-Smith smothered her drive at the ninth. She played two great woods, but pitched short. Miss Kay was bunkered, with her third, but she used an explosion shot and sank a 25foot putt for a win in five. Miss Kay was then 1 up. She was out in 40, and Mrs Fullerton-Smith in 41. A short second and a chip cost Mrs Fullerton-Smith the next hole. The following two were halved, but Mrs Fullerton-Smith- won the thirteenth. Miss Kay took three putts at the fourteenth for a half. She won the fifteenth, Mrs Fullerton-Smith taking three putts. The next two holes were halved. Mrs Fullerton-Smith pulled her drive into the tiger country, at the eighteenth and took six. Miss Kay was down in five after three putts to stand 3 up at lunch.

Afternoon Round In the afternoon Miss Kay won the first two holes with a birdie three and a par five. She lost the third, pulling her drive. A downhill putt tricked Mrs Fullerton-Smith at the fourth. She was five down. Miss Kay took three putts at the fifth but halved the hole. The sixth was halved but the seventh put Miss Kay six up. Both were bunkered, but Miss Kay was on the green in two and Mrs Fullerton-Smith in three. The eighth hole was halved, but the ninth was won by Mrs Fullerton-Smith who sank a 20-foot putt for a five. Miss Kay was out in 42 and Mrs FullertonSmith in 44. Mrs Fullerton-Smith fluffed a chip in a bunker at the tenth and was six down. The next two holes were halved and Miss Kay was dormie six.
