AERIAL CONTEST TO AFRICA

PLANNING NOTABLE EVENT British Official Wireless (Received September 2, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, September 1. The final details of the Schlesinger air race, from Britain to Johannesburgon September 29, for which 14 wellknown British racing airmen have entered, have been issued by the racing committee of the Royal Aero Club. The race will begin from Portsmouth airport at 6.15 a.m. The machines will start at intervals of one minute, and this difference in time will be adjusted at Cairo, which is the only official control in the race, although the competitors must be seen turning at Zimun aerodrome at Belgrade. The Imperial Airways have undertaken the responsibility of airport lighting and ground control at all the known airports on the route. The airports will remain lighted all night on September 29 and 30 and October 1.
