DISPUTE AT WAIHI
MINES STILL IDLE Bs Telegrann ei.-ss-WAIHI, September 2. Another mass meeting of local unions associated with the mining industry was held this morning to consider a further proposal of the Government submitted by Messrs Mostyn (as-sistant-secretary of Labour), Mclvor (Inspector of Labour, Hamilton) and the Hon. E. Dye, M.L.C. It was resolved not to return to work pending ■ conference between the council of unions and the Government representatives with a view to arranging a conference with Mr R. G. Milligan, New Zealand director of the Martha Gold Mining Co. (Waihi) Ltd., to bring about a settlement. The number of men idle is nearly 600, including miners, carpenters, engineers and engine-drivers.
