CATTLE IMPORTED

RED POLL FOR EUREKA A yearling stud Red Poll bull imported on behalf of Mr W. Leask, of Eureka, has arrived from Tasmania. Bred by the estate of the late Mr J. H. Thompson, Wingaroo Stud Farm, Wingaroo Manna was sired by Wlngarob Vulcan, the dam being Wingaroo Ma by Belmont Prior. A notable example of the breed .this bull is well developed for his age, being particularly low set with level top and a good head; a dark rich red in colour with a skin that handles perfectly. Situated on Flinders Island in the Forneaux Group, between Tasmania and the mainland, Wingaroo Stud Farm is well known throughout Australia and it is acknowledged that the late Mr Thompson spared no expense in securing the best blood available in Australia and Great Britain as will be seen by the standard of the cattle bred on this property. Red Poli breeders throughout the Dominion will be particularly interested in this importation as Wingaroo Manna’s pedigree discloses that his ancestors on both sides are all rated double A standard. This gradual increase in the numbers of this useful breed throughout the Dominion is shown in the Society’s herd book and imported sires of this quality will do much to improve the standard. On arrival Wingaroo Manna was taken to Somes Island for quarantine by the Janie Seddon which brought off Mr W. Clark’s three Aberdeen Angus bulls recently Imported from Scotland. These bulls were transhipped into the Wainui for transport to Gisborne, their final destination.
